So pain can be of various types, forms, onset and so will be the treatment . Treatment will obviously vary based on your age, medical history and dental history too.
So now lets break some myths.
A tablet used for your friend to cure his tooth pain may work for you at times but without knowing what's the root cause of your dental pain you cannot address the issue as it may be hazardous in future.
Generally a tooth pain can be due to
- DECAY
- SENSITIVITY
- TOOTH WEAR / ATTRITION
- ABRASION
- EROSION
- IMPACTION OF TEETH
- HIGH POINTS
- SINUSITIS
- TRAUMA etc
Let's see for treaments
- If you have pain during consumption of cold/hot foods , it could be dentinal hypersensitivity causing pain - this couldnt be treated immediately but takes a long time but for a remedy to start , TRY APPLYING ANY SENSITIVITY PASTE OVER THE TOOTH CAUSING PAIN AND LEAVE IT FOR FEW MINUTES and then brush it like using normal paste. USE PAINKILLERS IF NECESSARY
- If you have a decay and pain on the same tooth it could be due to pulpal infection for which
LONG TERM REMEDY - ROOT CANAL TREATMENT-ICE PACK ,
-ELEVATE YOUR HEAD AND SLEEP
- If you have tooth pain along with jaw pain after getting your cap/crown fixed or after wearing a new denture probably it could be due to HIGH POINTS.You may have to get it corrected with your Dentist.
- If you have pain in your tooth after an act of TRAUMA ,probably the impact of force could be the reason for the pain and usually pain in TRAUMATISED TOOTH will react late from few hrs to even few years. SEVERITY OF THE TRAUMATISED TOOTH DEPENDS ON SEVERITY of the IMPACT FORCE.
- If you have pain in your wisdom tooth which has partially or not fully erupted, probably its fighting for a place in your jaw and is impinging on your tooth that lies in front of it or your jaw bone .In that case ,your DENTIST WILL DIAGNOSE THE CONDITION USING RADIOGRAPHS (X -RAYS) AND TREAT YOU ACCORDINGLY.
FOR AT HOME TREATMENT, - USE PAINKILLERS AND ANTIBIOTICS (IF ANY INFECTION PREVAILS )
- GARGLE WITH WARM SALT WATER
- USE ICE PACK EXTERNALLY (not immediately after warm rinsing)
- FIX APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR DENTIST
