Can you prevent caries? 

         Yes, absolutely. We can prevent caries and this is were we use sealants. 

What are sealants? 

         Sealants are protective coating applied by your Dentist on the biting surface of your teeth. 

Why do you need Dental sealants? 

          Although we brush twice daily and floss , there might be areas that are not reachable by our brush. This might become an easier and optimal environment for bacteria to grow in those areas. 

When do you need to apply sealants? 

Sealants are often applied as soon as the first permanent teeth start to come through. This is usually between 6 and 7 years of age. The rest are usually sealed as soon as they appear which can be any time between 11 and 14 years of age.

Can Adults use sealants or it's only for kids?

  Yes, adults can use dental sealants on tooth that has no fillings or any crowns / cap. Remember these sealants are only for preventing a good natural tooth without caries / decay so there is no use in applying them on your fillings.

For kids, these sealants are a must as they can give you massive protection of about 88% from getting a decay on your biting surface.

What is the procedure to apply?

  The tooth surface is cleaned and etched (using etchant opens up the dentin making it a rough surface so that the sealant gets attached firmly). To the etched surface, sealant material is applied and light cured.

How long will it last?

            It's proven, that the sealant lasts for upto 9 years. 

What are sealants made of? 

               They are made of resins. They contain a very minimal amount of BPA which is harmless and complications due to sealant applications are extremely rare.
