 TEETH WHITENING

Thinking about getting Teeth whitening treatment for your teeth? Let's know a little about it before.

Why did my teeth color turn yellow/darker?
There are various factors causing stains to your teeth.

  • Food -  which contains colouring agents .
  • Drinks - coffee, tea, red wine.

  • Habits - smoking, tobacco usage in any form.
  • Age - with increasing age enamel gets worn out and the underlying dentin layer (which is yellow in colour) gets exposed, thus making your teeth look yellowish.
  • Medications - some drugs can cause discolorations.
  • Trauma - hard brushing wears off the enamel layer and exposes underlying dentin making your teeth to appear yellow and any accidental fracture to teeth or a hit on teeth can also cause discolorations making it non vital ( the inside nerves and bloodvessels when damaged become dead) .
Enamel erodes and exposes the dentin colour

What is the procedure?

Basically your Dentist applies bleaching agents comprising of either hydrogen peroxide / carbamide peroxide which is specifically made for this purpose in concentrations that is harmless.
And uses laser / light cures it.

Is whitening effective for all?

This varies according to your tooth shade. Whitening will not work on caps, veneers, crowns or fillings. It also won’t be effective if your tooth discoloration is caused by medications or a tooth injury.

If your tooth is very brownish it will take more than a sitting.

If your tooth is gray it will not work.

Are there any side effects?
Most common side effect is tooth sensitivity. It is temporary in most cases, but still if whitening is done very often it can damage your enamel.
